After adding support for sending photos high definiton (HD), WhatsApp now provides an update that allows users to send videos in HD resolution. This new feature is available for iOS and Android users.
This feature is similar to HD photos. The HD video feature gives users the option to share high-quality videos on WhatsApp.
Previously, high-quality videos would be compressed to 480p, according to the WhatsApp application’s resolution limit. However, now users can choose to send their videos in HD, but only 720p, citing TechcrunchMonday (28/8).
The process of sending HD resolution videos is no different than sharing HD photos. After selecting the video or videos that you want to share, the user can select the new HD button at the top of the screen.
A dialog box will appear when the user can confirm whether they want to share in Standard Quality or HD Quality and will show the associated file size. Then press send to share the video as usual.
Images and videos shared on WhatsApp are protected with the company’s end-to-end encryption.
Recipients will see a small HD badge on videos shared in the app letting them know that the sender has shared the video in HD quality. This allows the recipient to decide whether they have the storage space or available bandwidth to view the shared video in HD quality at that moment.
Previously, WhatsApp got an update that allows users to share HD photos. Thus, users no longer need to worry that photos sent via WA will ‘break’ due to the minimal quality.
This update was announced directly by MEta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on the Instagram Broadcast Channel.
“Sharing photos on WhatsApp has just been improved. Now you can send in HD format,” said Zuckerberg some time ago.
