What we can do for you abroad and the knowledge “law is local”

Maybe I’ll fulfill the dream of my early years as a lawyer and settle in Spain as an abogado. Because of the EU freedom to provide services and freedom of establishment, I would be able to do this as an abogado inscrito. If I pass an exam, I could even become a full Spanish lawyer. All well and good. One more melodious title.

But: do I master the local legal system like the one here with my solid German education and 21 years of professional experience as a German lawyer? Is that why I know the local customs? Do I have the know-how how to “thread” something? What “works” and what “doesn’t work”?

–No.

That is why we can realistically do very little for you on site in our capacity as German lawyers. I came to the humble realization: “Shoemaker stick to your last”. If I have learned anything from my many years of experience abroad, it is this: “Law is local”.

While the world is growing together, technology and business are increasingly being carried out in accordance with generally applicable standards, the legal systems – despite EU requirements – remain so different that you also need an experienced, professionally positioned partner on site within Europe whose working style is compatible with local standards .

What we can do for you in foreign cases is nevertheless extremely important and decisive for your success: we will find a lawyer on site for you, we have contacts worldwide, in some countries we even have an excellent network of contacts (e.g. in Spain, in France , in Turkey).

And despite all the differences, we as lawyers speak the “same language” as our foreign colleagues. We are able to find out the crucial information for you. Last but not least, we act as yours Project manager, which may be necessary because the “form of presentation” of legal results, the “responsiveness” and the way foreign colleagues work can differ considerably from the standard used in Germany.

Are you, for example, a medium-sized company and have a process that involves foreign countries? When it comes to international issues, it does not necessarily have to be an expensive, glittering large law firm with branches all over the world. Do not hesitate to contact me! Let me see if and how I can help you.
