And who better to talk about magic and trickery than the Spanish champion of Comic Magic and winner of the prestigious ‘Fool us’ award in Las Vegas, the versatile magician Jandro, who will soon present the program ‘Mapi’ on TVE’s La 1. “James Randy said that magicians are honest liars, because we say that we are going to deceive you and we comply. We are one of the few who lie and say it”, explains the presenter, comedian and magician.
“They asked me if I spoke Catalan and I recorded the whole series making up words“
Asked what some of his big lies have been, Jandro confesses that it was thanks to a lie that he began his television career. “We offered a magic program to regional television channels and they bought it on Catalan TV3”, explains the magician. The problem came when the chain made it a condition that the program be done entirely in Catalan. After several from Madrid had to give the denial, Jandro pulled inventive to be able to accept the project: “They asked me if I knew Catalan and I told them: “Clar yes”. I recorded the whole series making up the words”. And he must have been very lucky or sound very convincing, because they did not discover him and thus kicked off a long and productive television career.

Leaving aside the lies, Jandro confirms that he will soon present the Mapi program on TVE, “a show with famous guests” full of humor, outreach and family content. A format imported from Japan, where Mapi is introduced “in post-production, but here we do it in real time”. And the presenter leaves us wanting more, because he assures that Mapi, who is like an avatar, “is charming, you eat her.”
