The losses of Ukrainian retailers as a result of the war amounted to at least UAH 50 billion.

Network losses domestic retailers due to the full-scale invasion of Russia amount to 50.7 billion hryvnia.

This is evidenced by the data researchconducted by the Association of Retailers of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Council of Shopping Centers, which surveyed 295 large chains and small businesses.

“The total volume of direct losses in the trade sector is estimated at UAH 50.7 billion (an average of UAH 30,475 per 1 square meter of damaged retail outlets, or UAH 17.4 million per damaged store). According to the study, from 50.7 UAH billion of losses 41% are caused by damage to buildings, shops, engineering networks, decoration, etc.

Losses on inventory balances in stores (assessed at the purchase price) and equipment losses amounted to 17% each, losses of goods in warehouses – 14%, losses to warehouse, industrial, office buildings / premises and equipment in them (which were owned by companies) amounted to 9 %, another 2% are other losses.

It is also noted that the real figure of direct losses will be much higher, because there were no calculations of the total losses of retail, which should include profits lost during the three months of the war, taking into account their constant growth. As a result, the amount can be 3-4 times more.

“In terms of product groups, food chains suffered the most – 60% of losses in the industry. In second place are fashion retailers, whose losses amounted to 11% of the trade industry. The top three most affected trade sectors include sellers of electronics and household appliances – 7% from losses in the industry,” the statement said.

As of June 6, 2022, Ukraine was predicted rising inflation and unemployment.

Vladislav Chechetkin, co-owner of the largest Ukrainian online retailer Rozetka, predicted that there could be shortage of home appliances. Also, according to the forecast, Ukrainians are waiting for problems with the assortment.
