What eating habits make people vulnerable to prediabetes?

Untreated prediabetes can develop into type 2 diabetes.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Before developing diabetes, people can experience: glucose intolerance also called prediabetes. This occurs when the blood sugar level is high, but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes.

If left untreated, glucose intolerance can quickly turn into type 2 diabetes. So what causes glucose intolerance?

A new study finds that eating out in the evening could be the main culprit. Glucose intolerance is an early warning sign that the body is no longer able to absorb sugar from the bloodstream into the cells.

If you develop type 2 diabetes, there is a risk of serious illnesses such as stroke and heart disease. A study published in the journal Science advances found that the workers move the nocturnal eaters suffered from glucose intolerance, while those who ate only during the day did not.

The researchers noted that workers were burdened with significant disruptions to their body’s circadian rhythms. The central circadian clock is controlled in the brain and sends messages to your body to help regulate its activities, including digesting sugar for 24 hours.

It does this by timing the organ-specific peripheral circadian rhythms. However, this peripheral circadian rhythm can be disrupted by various factors. The availability of food, for example, can disrupt the circadian rhythm in the digestive organs.

In the study, the researchers divided 19 workers move healthy nights in two groups. One group ate in the evening, while the other ate during the day. The time of the second group was in harmony with the natural time established by the central circadian rhythm.

Participants who ate at night experienced an increase in blood glucose levels, while those who only ate during the day did not experience any changes. This implies that late meals are responsible for glucose intolerance.

“Among the participants studied, those with the greatest disturbances in the circadian system showed the greatest decreases in glucose tolerance,” said study co-author Frank AJL Scheer. To expressAhad (18/9/2022).

Eating at night also reduces the beta cell function of the pancreas. Researchers say it also has an impact on the body’s processing of glucose. Beta cells produce insulin, the main hormone that processes glucose.
