On Tuesday and Wednesday, English clubs will play a new round of Champions League group stage competitions for the 2202-2023 season.
Four English teams are participating in the Champions League this season, namely Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.
These clubs carried the flag of England to regain the Champions League title after their last coronation in 2019, which went to Liverpool.
Chelsea will visit Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and Manchester City will face Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage.
While, tomorrow, Wednesday, Liverpool will face Ajax in the Netherlands and Tottenham will host Sporting Lisbon.
City are the first Englishmen to qualify for the round of 16
Manchester City are the first English club to qualify for the round of 16 of the Champions League, before the group stage ends with two rounds.
City lead Group G with 10 points, 3 points behind runner-up Borussia Dortmund.
And Manchester City’s goal in the next two rounds will be to keep the lead until they fall into a comparatively easier confrontation in the final price round.
Chelsea in search of qualification against Salzburg
Chelsea are looking to win and collect the three points against Austrian Red Bull Salzburg to qualify for the round of 16 of the Champions League.
The task of the Blues will not be easy, because they are called to win away against Salzburg, second classified, and the fight for the top of the group will continue until the last round, especially if Milan beat Dinamo Zagreb.
Chelsea lead Champions League Group E with 7 points, one point behind Austrian runner-up Salzburg, while Croatia’s AC Milan and Dinamo Zagreb are behind with 4 points each.
Chelsea will end their season with an easy game against Dinamo Zagreb in the final round of the group stage.
Liverpool only need one point
Liverpool, on the other hand, will face Ajax tomorrow, Wednesday and they just need one point to go to the Champions League final.
Liverpool occupy the first group with 9 points, 3 points behind leaders Napoli with 12 points, while Ajax are third with three points, then Glasgow Rangers without a draw.
If Liverpool want to qualify as leaders they must first beat Ajax, then Napoli stumbled in the same round against Rangers, as well as beating the Italian in the last round.
Tottenham in a complicated group
The fourth English side of the Champions League, Tottenham, are in a complex group and will not easily qualify for the next round.
Tottenham lead the Group D standings with 7 points, one point behind Marseille and Sporting Lisbon, and Eintracht Frankfurt is fourth with 4 points.
Spurs must win and collect the three points against Sporting to get them out of the competition before facing Frankfurt in the final round.
Tottenham’s win over Sporting and Marseille’s win against Frankfurt in the same round mean that Spurs have qualified for the round of 16 and the fight for the lead continues until the last round.
