What do Mexicans think of the Tax Miscellany 2022?

Since the Tax Miscellany was published in September 2021 as part of the 2022 Economic Package, there have been different discussions around it, especially those related to the Simplified Trust Regime, the obligation for 18-year-olds to register in the Federal Register of Taxpayers (RFC), regardless of whether they have economic activity or not, the limitation on deduction of donations and the elimination of VAT on menstrual products, among others.

What does the population think of these government laws? According to analysis by Metrics, an intelligence and data science firm, from November 2020 to November 2021 there were 111,000 posts on Twitter on the subject. The most relevant point of the conversation took place in October 2021, the moment when both senators and deputies approved the Tax Miscellany for 2022.

In that same period, the attitude of public opinion was 82% positive, as it celebrated that new taxes were not included within the Tax Reform, as well as the measures against tax evaders, the 0% VAT rate on pregnancy products menstrual, the proposal to simplify the payment of income tax and that the Income Law guarantee the continuity of social programs.

18% of the negative conversation of public opinion focused on the assumption that the 2022 Economic Package would be seeking to extract health funds from Mexicans. The Income Law also received criticism on social networks, as some people assured that it violates civil society organizations.
