The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, posted a video on his Telegram channel where he communicates with journalists. During this interview, Rogozin stated that he had information that the US was planning to disconnect Russia from the GPS satellite navigation system.

According to him, this decision was made as part of the sanctions against the Russian Federation. We remind you that Western sanctions were imposed on Russia because of its invasion of Ukraine. Where he got this information, Rogozin did not specify.

“Do you know that within the framework of sanctions, the United States is considering the possibility of disconnecting Russia from GPS navigation? Do you know about this? You don’t know. But I can say that such an issue is being considered,” Rogozin said.

The head of Roskosmos suggested not to “strain” because of the possible shutdown of GPS, since Russia has its own satellite system – GLONASS.

“You shouldn’t stress about this, because in every smartphone you have, and you don’t know about it, I’m absolutely convinced that there is GLONASS. Turning off GPS, GLONASS will work. It has the same accuracy as GPS. Therefore, everything is fine” Rogozin said.
