Almost two months after Western Union, the international company specialized in sending money, stopped sending remittances to Cuba at the end of January, the company remains firm with the resumption date of this service, noting that it will return from April.

According to an employee who spoke with the media outlet Radio Martithis time has served to solve several technical problems that the company has had with many of its clients on the Island, which affected the sending and delivery of remittances.

Speaking of the economic limbo in which several of its partners were left due to delays in some transactions and the automatic rejection of others, Western Union assured that the full money, including shipping fees, had been returned to customers, as had been announced shortly after the problem began.

Remittance services were suspended on January 26, after technical problems were detected in the island’s banking entities.

“What we understand is that apparently there is some technical problem with the banks in Cuba and we are working so that people can continue making their shipments,” a Western Union spokesperson confirmed in early February.

This announcement coincided with one made by the Castro regime, which reported on an alleged cyber attack carried out from “abroad.” which caused the suspension of the increase in gasoline prices and its sale in dollars.

Western Union never linked the damage to the banking system with the alleged cyberattack, but this was a very popular theory among Internet users on social networks.

While the company returned the money that could not be delivered, this did not solve the problem faced by families on the Island, since they largely depend on that money to be able to deal with the serious economic crisis that has been affecting the country for months. .

In that sense, there is no doubt that thousands of Antilleans are eagerly waiting for Western Union to completely solve the problems that prevent them from sending remittances to the Greater Antilles.
