Lille has reportedly set his price for fit forward Jonathan David and the race to sign him looks set to accelerate.
The 21-year-old is currently in his second season with the French champions. And he’s enjoying a stellar campaign, with 10 league goals in 11 starts and 14 appearances. The Canadian international has also found the net once in the Champions League and many clubs have taken notice.
The Hammers were linked last summer as David Moyes’ search for a forward continued. But he stayed with Les Dogues even though players like Arsenal and Liverpool also showed interest.
The Gunners appeared to be in pole position after David admitted that dreamed of moving to the Emirates. Nevertheless, Newcastle has now entered the scene after its acquisition backed by Saudi Arabia.
West Ham are still in the market for a new leader, with Braga striker Vitor Oliveira linked to the London Stadium. But they are also believed to have rekindled their interest in David.
With prices skyrocketing in recent years, the value of the prolific hitman may have been out of West Ham’s grasp. Nevertheless, The Guardian suggests that the North American could be available for around £ 25 million.
This is due to Lille’s financial difficulties and the fact that they need to raise funds. That wouldn’t be a problem for the East End team and it will come down to player preference.
David, the title winner, a versatile asset
Lille managed to break Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance in the French top flight with an unexpected win last season. David played his role after a slow start to his club career.
The New York-born ace scored just twice in his first 25 games for Lille. But he has scored 21 times in 34 league games this year and helped his team beat PSG for the title by just one point.
He can play as a center forward or operate wide on a front three. That might be a good fit for Moyes, with Antonio sure to keep his spot on the side.

Without a doubt, other clubs will enter the equation. But it seems like David’s priority is playing time.
He could have moved to the Premier League in the summer of 2020, but explained his reasons to choose Lille.
He told France Bleu Nord: “Everyone knows that the Premier League is a high-quality league. But my choice was dictated by the fact that, above all, I wanted to be sure to play.
“My choice was made quite early. But I understand that it took a while to finish between the two clubs. “
