Wesström snubbed interview – rumored to fire Alm for the second time: “His days are numbered”

Odense has had a nightmare start to the season and is last in the Danish top league with only one recorded point in five games. On Sunday afternoon, they fell 2-0 away to Brøndby, and afterwards there was speculation about Andreas Alm’s future and whether his days as head coach at the club are numbered or not.

Club director Björn Wesström refused to appear for an interview in TV3’s “Onside” shortly after the loss. From before, it was planned that the former AIK top would participate in the program to sort out the situation around Alm due to the choppy start.

Kenneth Emil Petersen, former Odense player and now expert for TV3, chose to interpret Wesström’s absence and refusal to participate in the following way:

– If one is to draw any conclusion from this, it may well indicate that things are about to happen in OB. It wouldn’t surprise me. The last few matches have simply been under all criticism, Petersen said according to Tipsbladet.

According to Tipsbladet, Kenneth Emil Petersen then went hard on Odense before he had to answer the question if he thinks Andreas Alm will remain as head coach next week.

– No. I don’t think so, answered Petersen succinctly.

Even Stig Tøfting, former Danish national team player, predicted that Andreas Alm may well lose his job shortly.

– I don’t directly interpret it as Alm getting fired because he (Björn Wesström) doesn’t want to stand up. But I think his days are numbered. It’s not rocket science that when you as a football coach don’t win games, you risk getting fired, said Tøfting.

Andreas Alm took over Odense last summer and led the team to a mid-table finish last year. Now it remains to be seen how long the 49-year-old, who has previously coached AIK, Velje BK and BK Häcken, will remain in his head coaching position in Denmark.

When Alm was fired by AIK in 2016, Björn Wesström was sporting director. Now that history can repeat itself, albeit in Odense.
