Wednesday’s storm could bring five more inches of snow

The sun rose Monday but could do little to warm millions of Texans without power amid a historic freeze.

At 1 p.m. Monday, the maximum temperature reached 11 degrees F, which is not enough to clear the four inches of snow that fell Sunday at DFW airport.

And before a truce can be achieved with the weather, more snow is on the way that will add to the slippery conditions for those who must circulate on the roads, according to the National Weather Service.

Lows Tuesday will remain below 10 ° F, but with a wind chill of -15 ° F, according to James Dunn, a meteorologist with the weather service.

The region, for the first time, is under a cold wind chill warning until noon on Tuesday.

“Freezing winds can cause ice burns in less than 30 minutes,” warned the National Weather Service. “You have to avoid being outdoors as much as possible.”

The next round of winter weather could arrive in Texas Tuesday afternoon, heading south toward Dallas, Dunn explained.

Areas north of I-20 could receive an extra 3 to 5 inches of snow.

“This could be primarily a mix of frozen rain and sleet, which can result in more ice south of the metroplex,” he said.

After a winter storm advisory expired Monday morning, the National Weather Service issued a second advisory for the region. This notice begins at 6 pm on Tuesday and expires at 6 am on Thursday. For this reason, North Texas residents should avoid travel on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday. There could be even more blackouts.

The drinking water service in several cities in the region received reports of frozen pipes since Monday morning. Residents are advised to keep the taps in their homes constantly dripping to avoid freezing.

Grand Prairie was dealing with broken pipes and problems fixing them due to extreme cold. However, none of these breaks were causing major problems.

The extreme cold forced several shopping centers to close, as was the case in NorthPark and Golden Triangle, which were closed all day and the Galleria Mall closed at noon. Several supermarkets like Kroger and Central Market. they also had to close early
