WECANDANCE 2024 Theme Announcement: Drop in the Light, Rise in the Dark

It’s not even summer yet, and yet WECANDANCE is already announcing its theme for 2024. The popular beach festival immerses its visitors in a new world every year, and this year it should be an ‘enlightening’ experience.

After last summer’s spectacular tenth anniversary, the Electronic Beach Festival WECANDANCE is preparing for a transformation this year. The organization announces a new creative director: Dennis Vanderbroeck. Not only does the festival take a new path artistically, the theme and the associated dress code also promise to be daring and innovative.

Self-expression is central

After all, at WECANDANCE 2024 we can show off outfits with the theme ‘Drop in the Light, Rise in the Dark’. It couldn’t be more fitting for a twelve-hour festival that first takes place during the day and then at night in the dunes of Zeebrugge. “This year we celebrate both the light and the dark sides of life,” says creative director Vanderbroeck. In August, visitors will be able to spend two club weekends in an energetic and raw setting, where day and night come together.

But how does that theme translate into an outfit? On the Pinterestbord of the beach festival you can see that they were inspired by the catwalk looks of luxury brands such as Gucci, Miu Miu, Balenciaga, Prada and Loewe from the recent fashion weeks. There, contrasting outfits in soft and light tones alternated with dark and mysterious silhouettes in black, gray, burgundy, navy blue, copper and emerald green.

You can also create light by showing shine, glitter, translucent fabrics and bare skin in your outfit. If you want to go to the dark side in your look this summer, you can opt for layers for a nice mysterious effect.

The main focus is self-expression. “I would like to encourage our visitors this year to choose their outfits and looks based on their own feelings and personal interpretation, rather than just following fashion trends,” Vanderbroeck adds. A plea from the organizers to let yourself go in your outfit and wear what you like. “With the new theme, we also want to embrace interests other than fashion, such as art, design and music. The goal is to be able to show more of yourself in all aspects.”

Even more stages and the first series of artists

On Saturday 3, Sunday 4, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August, the festival plans to immerse its visitors in a revolution. Last year there were seven stages on the festival site, this summer there will be eleven.

With the announcement of the new theme, WECANDANCE also releases the first part of the line-up: $hirak, EMILIJA, LSDXOXO, Satori, Nissa Michelle, Kilimanjaro, Chloé Caillet, DJ Gigola and more. And in addition to familiar genres such as hip hop, techno, disco, female pop, energy house, and live acts, there will also be room for subgenres such as amapiano, which is now on the rise. Although we will have to wait a while to experience it all.
