A worsening of the weather is expected from today, Sunday, with showers, rains and storms from the western parts of the territory, according to an Emergency Bulletin of Weather Deterioration issued by EMY.
Until late Sunday night, the phenomena will have affected most areas of the mainland, from the Peloponnese to Sterea, including Attica, and from Evia to the Sporades.
There is a possibility of rain in Macedonia and Epirus as well as in areas of the Cyclades and Crete.
Rains are not expected to occur in Thrace and the eastern Aegean. Strong storms will occur in the central-southern regions from late Sunday night.
The temperature will vary between 14-18 in the north, continental, between 17-19 in the other parts – central and south – and between 19-20 in the island regions of the Aegean.
Winds will blow southerly up to 6-7 Beaufort in the Ionian. The same in the Aegean.
The weather in Attica & Thessaloniki
Clouds with local rains are expected in Attica and from the evening the rains will become general. The temperature will vary between 11-19 degrees Celsius while the winds will blow southerly up to 4-5 Beaufort in the surrounding sea areas.
In Thessaloniki, clouds are expected with local rains at times weakened and a temperature of 10-16 degrees Celsius. Winds will blow southerly up to 4-5 Beaufort in Thermaikos.
The weather for the next few days
On Monday until noon the effects are expected to affect the eastern island regions and towards the evening they will begin to weaken. The temperature will be around 18-19 degrees in most parts of the country with northerlies up to 5-6 Beaufort.
On Tuesday the weather will improve while there will be some temporarily thicker clouds while the winds will blow northerly in all areas.
EMY’s prognosis in detail
Heavy rains and storms are forecast from the evening hours in the Ionian Islands, western and southern Peloponnese and western Crete.
In particular, increased clouds in the Ionian and the western, central and northern continental areas where there will be local rains and mainly in the northwest isolated storms. Until the evening hours, the phenomena will extend to the rest of the mainland, the Cyclades and Crete, they will intensify and sporadic storms will occur, locally strong in the Ionian Islands, the western and southern Peloponnese and western Crete.
Conditions favor the transport of African dust.
Winds will blow from south directions 4 to 6 and in the Ionian 7, temporary local 8 Beaufort.
The temperature, although it will drop slightly, will remain at high levels for the season and will reach 18 to 19 degrees Celsius.
MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: Increased clouds in Macedonia and gradually also in Thrace with rain and isolated storms from the midday hours mainly in Macedonia.
Winds: South southwest 3 to 4 and in the east until noon to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 09 to 18 and in western Macedonia 3 to 4 degrees lower.
IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIROS, WEST STEREA, WEST PELOPONNISOS
Weather: Increased cloudiness with rain and isolated thunderstorms in the north. From the evening hours, the phenomena will intensify and there will be sporadic locally strong storms in the Ionian Islands and the western Peloponnese.
Winds: South southeast 5 to 7 and in the Ionian locally 8 Beaufort with gradual weakening from the evening.
Temperature: From 09 to 19 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus from 05 to 15 degrees.
EASTERN STEREA, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNISOS
Weather: Increased clouds with local rain from noon. The phenomena from the evening hours in the south will intensify and there will be sporadic locally strong storms in the southern Peloponnese.
Winds: From south directions 4 to 6 and in the south to 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 09 to 18 degrees Celsius.
CYCLADES, CRETE
Weather: Sparse clouds that will thicken from the afternoon and local rains will occur from the evening. During the night in the west the phenomena will intensify and sporadic storms will also occur. In western Crete the effects will be strong in places.
Winds: From south directions 4 to 6 and in the south to 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 10 to 19 degrees Celsius.
EAST AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANISE
Weather: Sparse clouds that will thicken from the evening.
Winds: From south directions 3 to 5 Beaufort and from noon locally up to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 12 to 19 degrees Celsius. In the north 2 to 3 degrees lower.
THESSALY
Weather: Increased clouds with local rains.
Winds: From south directions 3 to 5 and from noon to east to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 10 to 18 degrees Celsius.
ATTICA
Weather: Cloudy with light local rains from noon, from the evening the rains will intensify and during the night there will also be sporadic storms.
Winds: Southeast 3 to 5 and from the evening to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 11 to 18 degrees Celsius.
THESSALONIKI
Weather: Increased clouds with rain and isolated thunderstorms from midday.
Winds: Southeast 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 09 to 18 degrees Celsius.
FOR TOMORROW MONDAY
In the northern Ionian and Epirus initially cloudy with rain and sporadic storms and rapid improvement. In the rest of the country, clouds with rain are forecast and mainly in the east and south sporadic storms. The effects will be locally strong from the early hours of the morning in central Macedonia, the Cyclades, Crete (mainly the south), Thessaly (mainly the east), eastern Sterea (including Temporarily also Attica) and in western Macedonia, the Peloponnese and possibly Evia, with gradual weakening of the phenomena from the afternoon. From the midday hours, the intense phenomena will extend to the Dodecanese and the southern areas of the eastern Aegean islands (from Chios and further south), while in the evening hours they will be limited to the eastern and southern island country. Weak snowfalls will occur in the central and northern mountains, at high altitudes.
The winds will blow from south directions 4 to 6 and in the seas locally 7 Beaufort. Quickly in the west they will turn to northerly directions and in the north to easterlies and weaken.
The temperature will not change appreciably.
FOR TUESDAY 27-02-2024
In the Cyclades, Crete, the Dodecanese and possibly in eastern Sterea and Evia initially cloudy with local rains and in the morning hours in the southeast sporadic storms. The phenomena, which in the morning hours in the southern parts of the Dodecanese will be intense in places, will quickly weaken in the southeast and will stop in the rest.
In the rest of the country, temporary clouds. Locally limited visibility in continental areas in the morning and evening hours.
Winds in the west will initially be variable light and gradually from southerly directions 3 to 5 Beaufort. In the east it will blow from easterly directions 3 to 5 and on the seas locally 6 Beaufort, with gradual weakening from the afternoon.
The temperature will not change appreciably.
FOR WEDNESDAY 02-28-2024
A few clouds that will quickly increase mainly in the eastern continental areas, so there will be local rain. Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust.
The winds will blow southeast 5 to 7 and in the Ionian region 8 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly in the west and south.
FOR THURSDAY 02-29-2024
In the west, central and northern clouds increased in places with local rain and sporadic storms. In the remaining few clouds that will gradually increase, so local rains are possible. Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust.
Winds will blow southeast 5 to 7 and on the seas locally up to 8 Beaufort, gradually weakening in the west from the afternoon.
The temperature will see a slight drop in terms of maximum values.
