Weather forecast São Paulo Grand Prix: Sunny weekend is just around the corner at Interlagos

Traditionally, the São Paulo Grand Prix is often dominated by changing and difficult conditions. This year, however, there seems to be little of that, as most of the weekend in Brazil, as it looks now, will be run in dry conditions.

It’s time for round nineteen in this world championship and the second race of a so-called ‘triple-header’, in which we can enjoy race weekend for three weeks in a row. After we last weekend Max Verstappen win in Mexico City, we traveled almost 7,500 kilometers as the crow flies to the south for the São Paulo Grand Prix next weekend.

The Interlagos circuit, popularly named after the district in which the Autódromo José Carlos Pace is located, has provided the necessary legendary races and moments throughout history. It’s not the best track in Lewis Hamilton. The Briton has only won twice in his career at Interlagos: in 2016 and 2018. The last edition in 2019 was won by Max Verstappen, before the circuit disappeared from the calendar for a year due to the raging corona pandemic.

Sao Paulo . Grand Prix Weather forecast

So this weekend we will return after a year of absence and it looks like the Brazilian sun will shine for the fans and people in the paddock. At the moment, the only risk of a wet session seems to be in the first free practice and qualifying. On Friday there may be a drop of rain, but that chance seems small and minimal. Saturday, when the sprint race will be held, and Sunday seem to be preparing for favorable, dry conditions with maximum temperatures around 19 degrees on Saturday and 25 on Sunday.

The high temperatures on Sunday in particular seem grist to the mill for the team of Red Bull Racing. At least if we Mercedes engineer Andrew Shovlin must believe. He indicated earlier this week that Mercedes hopes for cool and cloudy conditions, as the Mercedes performs best on them. According to Shovlin, Red Bull would actually benefit from very hot asphalt, and that can rise quite a bit with a maximum temperature of 25 degrees.
