Weather and temperature trends for the next two weeks. The cold air moves northward, and the temperature tends to be high. There will be a lot of warm days in spring. Since the scattering of cedar pollen is reaching its peak, take all possible measures. In places where a lot of snow remains, you need to be careful of snowmelt disasters.

Week 1 (27th to March 5th) Temperature spikes Warmth of spring

On the 27th (Monday), the winter-type atmospheric pressure pattern will loosen and the cold air will move northward. A high pressure system will cover the area around Japan until the 28th (Tuesday), and it is expected to be sunny over a wide area, including the Sea of Japan side.

From March 1st (Wednesday) to 2nd (Thursday), the center of the high pressure will move away to the east of Japan, and the front will extend to the south of Japan. Clouds are likely to spread, and rain is likely to increase. From the 3rd (Friday) to the 4th (Saturday), a low pressure system will form on the front and move east of the Kanto region. There are many clouds in the Kanto region, and it is likely to rain mainly in the coastal areas.

The 5th (Sun) will be mostly sunny.

In contrast to the coldness of winter, both the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be above average for this time of year. Especially on the 28th (Tuesday) and March 1st (Wednesday), the temperature will be much higher than normal, and the daytime will be the warmth of spring. In Tokyo, the temperature will rise to nearly 20 degrees Celsius, and it will be the same as in mid-April. During the day, it will be warm enough that you don’t need a jacket.

Week 2 (March 6-11) High temperature trend continues

The weather is likely to change periodically in the second week (March 6th to 11th). It will be mostly sunny from the 6th (Mon) to the 7th (Tue). It is likely to rain from Hokkaido to Hokuriku and Kyushu on the 8th (Wednesday), and near Honshu from the 9th (Thursday) to the 10th (Friday). On the 11th (Sat), the weather will recover widely and the sun will reach.

Both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be above normal. In Sapporo, the temperature often rises above 5°C during the day, and in Sendai and Kanazawa, the temperature rises to around 15°C. In Tokyo, the temperature is expected to rise to nearly 20 degrees Celsius around the 8th (Wednesday). Even in Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka, the maximum temperature will be 15 degrees Celsius or higher, and there will be many days when it will be warm in the middle of spring.

It looks like it’s going to be a hot trend in the next two weeks. So far, there is no strong cold air going south, and even if there are some temperature differences, it is not expected to be as severe as midwinter.

Cedar pollen dispersal reaches its peak, take all possible measures

From now on, the warmth of spring will reach its peak, and the scattering of cedar pollen will reach its peak. People with hay fever need thorough measures.

It is important to avoid pollen to alleviate the symptoms of hay fever. Put on a mask and goggles, and devise your clothes.
① Glasses
Experimental results show that the amount of pollen entering the eye is reduced by about 40% compared to when glasses are not used, and the amount of pollen entering the eye is reduced by about 65% with protective covers for hay fever.
② Mask
I think that many people use it to prevent infection with the new coronavirus, but the amount of pollen inhaled can be reduced from about 1/3 to 1/6. It is important to choose a mask that fits your face. In addition, it is known that applying gauze to the inside of the mask (inner mask) further reduces pollen entering the nose.
③ Ingenuity of clothes
In general, pollen adheres more easily to wool clothing than cotton or synthetic fibers, making it easier to bring pollen indoors. Pollen sticks to wool more easily than cotton, about 10 times. When you go out, avoid wearing woolen clothes on the outside and choose a jacket with a smooth surface.

Be careful of snowmelt disasters in places where a lot of snow remains

What worries me about the warm weather is disasters and accidents caused by the melting snow. In places where a lot of snow remains, you need to pay attention to the following three points.

(1) Melting snow makes it easier for a “full-depth avalanche” to occur. It is a phenomenon in which all the snow that has piled up on the mountain slides down, and it often occurs after a rise in temperature or after rain. Particular caution is required on slopes that have experienced avalanches in the past or where the snow cover has cracks.

(2) As the temperature rises, accumulated snow becomes slippery, making it easier for “snow falling from the roof” to occur. When working in front of the eaves, it is necessary to be careful, such as checking the overhead situation. Also, when removing snow, please ensure safety by wearing lifelines and helmets, and working with as many people as possible.

③ When the temperature rises or it rains on roads with a lot of snow, there is a risk of “flooding”. This is because snow collected on the road shoulders can cause poor drainage, and snow clumps can block drainage ditches. Even if it is not heavy rain after a heavy snowfall, be careful of road flooding.
