KUPANG, KOMPAS.com – Humanists and anthropologists NTT Father Gregor Neonbasu SVD assessed the use of district traditional clothes Sabu Raijua, by President Joko Widodo is a form of respect for NTT culture.
Jokowi previously wearing the traditional dress during the MPR Annual Session at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2020) morning.
“Visually, as a Head of State’s respect for NTT cultural details, in this case Sabu Raijua,” Gregor told Kompas.com, by text message, Friday night.
On the other hand, he continued, this was a very interesting tourism momentum, because the Head of State gave a signal that the Sabu Raijua outfit also deserved to be held on a wider stage.
That means, said Lecturer of FISIP Catholic University, Widya Mandira Kupang that, not only limited to the Sabu area or NTT.
This event, said Gregor, was an interesting sign for every citizen to love cultural points and the results of people’s creativity more and more.
Gregor said, thus, this moment became the basis for community members to respect each other’s local culture.
“In the sense that if the President wears traditional Sabu clothes, then that means the President respects the Sabu culture,” he said.

Gregor hopes that from this momentum among the people of Indonesia, especially NTT, must do the same thing, namely respect each other, including cultural points.
“As an NTT person myself, I am very amazed and proud, Mr. President wears a Sabu outfit. He loves the people of NTT and their culture. Thank you, Mr. President,” he concluded.
