(ANSA) – ROME, GEN 13 – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to strengthen his country’s nuclear arsenal in his closing speech at the main meeting of his ruling party.
“As we strengthen our arsenal we must do everything possible to build the most powerful army,” Kim was quoted as saying by the official KCNA news agency.
The North Korean president’s statements come within hours of being appointed General Secretary of the Workers’ Party.
The appointment was made on the sixth day of the congress (held on Sunday) when the general secretariat was restored, eliminated in the previous congress in May 2016, in which Kim himself was appointed president of the Workers’ Party. (ANSA).
