“We should increase the average attendance by 20%”

As of today, the La Plata Regional Center for Hemotherapy will return to normal hours, after having maintained a particular structure for the summer season. In this way, it will open its doors from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12 noon. It is worth clarifying that three months ago it moved its facilities to Calle 71 between 26 and 27.

“We have been in the new building since mid-December 2021 to care for donors, and since October the laboratories and guard have been working. Thanks to good logistics and with the help of the media, the population came closer, since nine bus lines reach the new destination. There are also more parking facilities in the surroundings”, he told diary today the head of the institution’s Service, Laura Vives.

As usual in every summer, the turnout of donors decreased, but the fact of making collections in different parts of the city during these first months of the year maintained enough stock to respond to the events that were taking place.

“Many centers that send us blood units from the interior of the Province stopped doing so due to lack of personnel in those hospitals,” the doctor remarked. Regarding the next days, from the Hemotherapy Center they reported that today’s blood collection, which was going to take place at the Sean Eternos Center, was suspended. Despite this, the collections will continue to be made during the second fortnight of the month.

“The average number of donors served is 100 per day, exceeding this figure compared to some occasional call that appears on the networks. All those recovered from Covid-19, 15 days after discharge and if they are asymptomatic, can approach to donate. This is already noticeable because, after the wave in January, we now see the recovery of donor assistance. We should increase the average attendance by 20% in order to always have a sufficient and adequate stock for the scheduled demands and emergencies”, the boss remarked.

It is worth remembering that the requirements to approach and donate are to feel in good health, be between 16 and 65 years old, attend with a DNI or document that proves identity, weigh more than 50 kilograms and have breakfast beforehand.
