We return to see the light at the end of the gallery with PHotoESPAÑA 2020

We return to see the light behind the doors of museums, galleries and art centres that become open, little by little, and mask by, for us to recover the time we have been away from the exhibitions. And as every year one of the festivals more galleries hosts has returned, on the 25th of June begins PHotoESPAÑA 2020.

In its XXIII edition of the festival will showcase photography through the more than 50 major exhibitions of its Official Section, which will take place in museums and art centers. But on this occasion it goes a step further by incorporating new digital projects and a great showing of citizen participation that will be present on streets around the country.

The cities that will host the Official Section of PHotoESPAÑA 2020 will be Madrid, Alcalá de Henares, Alcobendas and Zaragoza. That bind to 105 galleries from all over the country who will participate in the extraordinary meeting of the OFF Festival. In total, nearly 350 photographers will present their work in the different venues of this edition.

For the second year the festival will also come to Santanderin October, with a dozen exhibitions and activities of citizens that are divided between the Official Section, the venues invited, the galleries will play host to the Festival OFF and the different activities for general public and professionals.

Welcome to the largest neighbourhood #PHEdesdemibalcón

One of the major innovations in this edition of PHotoESPAÑA 2020 is that the festival has reacted rapidly to the present that we are living and has pulled out how does not, of photography to add to his proposed portrait of the landfill. He has done so with a contest on Instagram where, under the hashtag #PHEdesdemibalcón, has collected images from the balconies and windows. Specifically 63.000 photographs of more than 10,000 photographers in a “story created by anonymous authors who demonstrate more than ever the democratic spirit of photography”.

All the images can be seen on Instagram and the 10 winners will be available during the festival in the photo gallery in your web. But many of them will also reach the cities, as they invited municipalities to join the initiative with a selection of images of his neighbors, and will be including the images in outdoor signs in spaces that are representative of each locality. These are the cities that have joined to #PHEdesdemibalcón: A Coruña, Albacete, Alcalá de Henares, Alcobendas, Alicante, Badajoz, Barcelona, Burgos, Cáceres, Cartagena, Castellón, Córdoba, Coslada, Cuenca, Elche, Getafe, Gijón, Girona, Granada, Guadalajara, Hervás, Hospitalet de Llobregat, Ibiza, Jaen, Las Palmas, Logroño, León, Madrid, Melilla, Muxía, Ourense, Oviedo, Pamplona, Salamanca, San Cristóbal de la Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santander, Segovia, Sevilla, Soria, Teruel, Toledo, Torrevieja, Valladolid, Valencia, Vigo, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Zamora and Zaragoza.

The perspective on the shadow of the confinement does not make it exclusively the participants in the contest, because the festival includes the digital project Time stopped. Photographic memory of the confinement (in collaboration with the foundation ENAIRE) that is composed by the looks on the confinement of 40 professional photographers.
