In connection with the publications in the Bulgarian media about Elena Mironenko’s film “One Faith, One Language” about the spread of Christianity among the Slavs, we would like to clarify the following.
The film is a reflection of the author’s point of view, contains a subjective interpretation of a number of historical events and does not correspond to the position of official Russian historiography, as well as the approaches of the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria.
It is good that in our Orthodox countries, as before, there is a lively interest in the common roots of faith, writing and culture. Creative initiative, not supported by historical expertise, unfortunately, does not always lead to the intended positive goal.
The film claims in plain text that Macedonia is the birthplace of the Slavic alphabet. According to the author, the brothers Cyril and Methodius have nothing in common with Bulgaria and our country did not appear as a literary and Orthodox center in the Balkans at that time. The film was awarded “Best Television Film in a Regional Television Studio” at the XXVI Radonezh International Film and Television Festival in Moscow.
With Great Russian chauvinism in the film it is stated that the most important part of the mission of Cyril and Methodius is their visit to Kherson, Crimea. There the brothers set foot on the land of future Russia, and the most important for the world is the Christianization carried out by Prince Vladimir. There they created the alphabet, using the ancient Russian language. The holy brothers had laid the foundations of the Third Rome – Moscow!

Chernorizets Hrabar is a Slavic educator who has nothing to do with Bulgaria. The Slavic script originates from Ohrid. In the film, Moscow is presented as the modern Byzantine Empire, which will bring Slavism under its wing, which is not a new idea. The film premieres in Skopje on Christmas Eve.
