President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on Ukraine’s desire to become a member of the NATO military bloc. According to him, Kiev has already been given to understand that the policy of “open doors” does not apply to Ukraine.
He said this during his online speech at the Joint Expeditionary Force in London.
“It is clear that Ukraine is not a member of NATO, we understand this, we are adequate people. For years we have heard about open doors, but now we have also heard that we cannot enter there, and we must admit it. I am glad that our people are starting this understand and count on ourselves and on our partners who help us,” the president said.
He once again called for closing the sky over the territory of Ukraine, but also noted that the likelihood of a positive decision is low.
“Ukraine does not currently claim to activate Article 5 of the NATO treaty. We always say that our skies need to be protected in the same way as the sky of the Alliance, but we understand that there is always a “but” and what the Alliance’s response will be if they are already in the east “Europe is turning for protection. If Russian missiles fly to them, God forbid, Russian planes. Russia attacked our Lviv region, a missile strike 20 km from NATO borders. Russian drones have already fallen on the territory of the Alliance,” the head of state summed up.
