ANKARA – President Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan states that the only way to achieve stability and peace in Palestine was to create an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital.

Speaking at the opening session of the 16th United Parliamentary Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Erdogan stated, Jerusalem is not the problem of a group of brave Muslims, but the problem of the entire Muslim world.

“Making Muslims pay the price of genocide against Jews in Europe during World War II is a kind of oppression and a lack of conscience,” Erdogan said, as quoted by Anadolu Agency, Friday (10/12/2021).

“As descendants of those who ruled Jerusalem for 400 years, we cannot bear to see blood, tears, and oppression in Palestine,” Erdogan continued.

At the same time, he told Muslim officials, Jerusalem was a blessed city and the Prophet Muhammad’s trust for his people, and defending it meant defending all mankind, human rights and law, peace, justice, and civilization.

“Palestinians are brutally murdered in the streets and their children are treated like terrorists, and their houses of worship are being targeted by aggression every day,” Erdogan said.

He reiterated that OIC member states must move together and avoid anything that weakens the Palestinian cause. “We must continue our mission, despite the brief support of the international community to find a just solution for the Palestinians,” he added.

Despite total support for the Palestinian cause, Turkey still maintains diplomatic relations with Israel. Trade between Turkey and Israel is also reported to be increasing every year.
