Wawrinka is not doing it

Swiss Stan Wawrinka (36, 30th) announced on Monday that he had had another operation on his left foot. He hasn’t played on the ATP Tour since March.

Stan Wawrinka can’t see the end of the tunnel. The 36-year-old Swiss player, now 30th in the world, had to undergo surgery on his left foot for the second time this year. On Monday he posted a video of his foot in a cast to Instagram, with the caption “Same place, different day, not where I wanna be but I still have a smile on my face.” #jeseraideretour # healing # soon ”. The three-time Grand Slam winner has played just seven games this year, leading to quarter-final defeats at the Murray River Open in Melbourne, the second round of the Australian Open and the first round in Rotterdam and in Doha, each time against lower ranked players. Last season, he had signed a year to 15 wins and 8 losses, with quarter-finals at the Australian Open, Acapulco and St Petersburg and Bercy, and a half in Doha.

It was supposed to be a “small operation” in March

On March 25, Stan Wawrinka had already posted a photo of him with his left foot in a big boot. He then wrote: “Due to problems with my left foot for a while, I decided to have a small operation. I’ll be back in a few weeks, can’t wait to train again. ” Obviously, the first operation did not prove to be beneficial, and the “few weeks” turned into “several months”, with packages for Roland Garros and Wimbledon in particular. The Swiss had yet resumed training in May, at home in Monte-Carlo, but he seems to have relapsed. At 36, will the former world No. 3 manage to regain the level that made him a winner of the 2014 Australian Open, 2015 Roland Garros and the 2016 US Open? It sounds like a mission impossible.
