Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said his side were “lucky” after being scared off by Watford’s difficulty before coming out 2-1 winners to stay ahead of the Premier League.
Mason Mount gave the Blues the lead at Vicarage Road before Emmanuel Dennis equalized with a deflected shot by Antonio Rudiger.
But Chelsea have taken five in a row in the top flight after Mount put in place substitute Hakim Ziyech to score.
However, Tuchel was not impressed with his team’s overall performance against a spirited side from Watford.
“We weren’t ready for this game,” said the German. “We are to blame. We never found the right attitude.
“We were very lucky to come out with the win. “
Tuchel said his players need to improve if they are to stay at the top of the table.
With rivals Manchester City and Liverpool winning, Chelsea have a one-point lead.
“We need a lot of points if we are to stay in the title race,” Tuchel added.
“Overall, we can do a lot better. There are some reasons – we have injured players and some key players due to overload were not on the pitch.
“I don’t want to be too critical but Watford deserved more. ”
