On Thursday night, Nintendo unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario movie, which has now been given an official name: The Super Mario Bros. Film.

Also, they set a new date after the movie pushed out of 2022 and into 2023 earlier this year. The film will be released on April 7, 2023.

In the trailer, we get our first real taste of different characters, such as Mario, Bowser, and Luigi. Plus, we get a glimpse of how Chris Pratt and Jack Black work in the roles of Mario and Bowser, respectively.

From the start, we also know that Luigi is played by Charlie Day (probably better known as Charlie in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), while Princess Peach is voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy, who most people probably knows from Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambetto. To develop the film, Nintendo brought the Minions company and Despicable Me Illumination Entertainment as a partner. In addition to Mario’s father, Shigeru Miyamoto, head of lighting Chris Meledandri will produce the film.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic direct, after they both recently worked on Teen Titans Go! To the Movies in 2018. Behind the script is Matthew Fogel, who in recent years has written the films Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
