SpaceX will take the Crew Dragon spacecraft out of orbit on Saturday. The capsule will transport four members of the Inspiration 4 mission back to Earth after three days in space.
The Crew Dragon Capsule is expected to disintegrate in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida at 7:06 p.m. EDT.
Special Historical Mission – – It includes Commander Jared Isakman, pilot Sian Proctor, Chief Medical Officer Hayley Arsenault and mission specialist Chris Sembrowski. – – Humans orbit the Earth at an altitude of 350 miles above the International Space Station, causing them to travel to Earth for years. The free spaceflight capsule is not docked with the International Space Station, but instead orbits the Earth independently at the rate of 15 orbits a day.
Inspiration4 shared a photo of the crew’s time in orbit and enjoyed an expansive view from the spacecraft’s “dome” window.
This is the third time SpaceX has taken astronauts out of space, and this is the second capsule. This is a flight of NASA’s Crew 1 mission on its return flight in May. For the return of Inspiration 4, the elastic is expected to close the nosecone at 6:35 a.m. ET before making a violent reentry and deploying a parachute shortly after 7 p.m. ET.
SpaceX’s two previous astronaut missions have been scattered in the Gulf of Mexico, making them the first missions to return to the Atlantic Ocean.
