Watch out! These 6 Omicron COVID-19 Symptoms Are Often Ignored

Jakarta

Currently, the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is endemic in almost all parts of the world, including Indonesia. Although it is said to be lighter than other variants, the symptoms are still very disturbing.

On average, people exposed to the Omicron variant of COVID-19 only experience mild, almost flu-like symptoms, such as fever, headache, and weakness. But there are other symptoms of Omicron variant COVID-19 that may arise.

Quoted from The Sun, Tuesday (15/2/2022), here are 6 symptoms of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 that are often overlooked:

1. Back Pain

Since December 2021, a study on COVID-19 symptoms in the UK, ZOE COVID, reported lower back pain as a common symptom experienced by COVID-19 patients. Low back pain is a symptom that has been reported by 20 percent of patients with the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

“We added low back pain as an option and it’s a frequent complaint,” said Tim Spector, a genetic epidemiologist and founder of the company ZOE COVID.

2. Loss of Appetite

ZOE COVID also noted loss of appetite as a symptom that often appears in patients with the Omicron variant of COVID-19. This symptom was the first to appear as a differentiator between the Delta and Omicron variants.

“Reports of contributors who were infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 also reported loss of appetite and brain fog as common symptoms,” ZOE COVID said in a statement.

3. Night Sweat

A British doctor, Dr Amir Khan, said many patients complained of symptoms of night sweats. When these symptoms appear, nightwear and bedding will be soaking wet, even though the bedroom is cool.

“Dream night sweats, where you might have to get up and change,” says Dr Khan.

Dr. Khan recommends doing a PCR test immediately if you experience night sweats.

4. Diarrhea

Having diarrhea can be a sign of exposure to the Omicron variant of the Corona virus. According to Prof. Tim Spector, the variant can choose to stay in the intestines rather than in the nose.

This means that when people are infected and experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, the test for COVID-19 will produce a negative result because there are no traces of Omicron in the nose or mouth.

“There is a possibility that the Omicron variant or other variants attack the intestines. We could have missed some cases because we did the test through the nose,” said Prof Tim Spector.
