The occupiers present “Frankenstein” – a BU-6000 Marine missile launcher mounted on the chassis of the MT-LB multipurpose tracked armored personnel carrier.
The rocket launcher in the mentioned video was used by the artillery unit of the Volunteer Reconnaissance Assault Brigade “Nevsky” of the Russian Armed Forces.
Due to the lack of suitable land weapons and the possible surplus of naval armaments, the RBU-6000 equipment, originally intended for anti-submarine warfare, was re-used for land operations.
In particular, the manual reloading process makes it difficult to adapt naval weapons for land operations. While naval vessels typically have dedicated ammunition storage compartments, land-based platforms such as the MT-LB do not, requiring manual reloads. For each RGB-60 missile, which weighs 113 kilograms and requires manual handling, the reloading process creates logistical complications. For comparison, “Grad” artillery rockets weigh about 66 kilograms.
The RBU-6000, also known as “Smerch-2”, is a Soviet-era missile launcher designed to destroy enemy submarines and torpedoes. The system has a range of 5.2 kilometers and a maximum firing rate of one shot every 2.4 seconds.
