Washington imposes a quarantine for the states considered high risk

The mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, has issued an order requiring that anyone seeking to enter the state from other US territories deemed high risk for their status in the coronavirus pandemic will have to be quarantined.

Specifically, the order, which entered into force this Monday, indicates that anyone who wants to enter Washington after developing “non-essential activities” in these territories, he has to isolate himself for 14 days, according to a statement. If they show symptoms compatible with COVID-19, they will also need to seek medical attention.

The list of the 27 critical states includes Arkansas, Arizona, Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas or Utah, reports the newspaper The Washington Post. However, Maryland and Virginia are exempt from the list.

The order, which will be updated every two weeks, specifies that critical points are considered to be those that record ten or more cases of coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants every day. It will be in force until October 9, 2020 or until the end of the state of emergency decreed in Washington.

More than 1,000 people died every day for four consecutive days from COVID-19 in the United States last week. In the past two days, states like California and Georgia have broken records. California has broken its record of deaths from coronavirus –159, which number 8,445 – and Georgia has reported its highest number of new infections since the pandemic began – 4,813, for a total of 165,180.

The United States is the country most affected by the pandemic, since, so far, it has confirmed more than 4.2 million cases, 55,000 in the last 24 hours. Furthermore, more than 147,000 people have died in the North American country as a result of COVID-19.
