This Wednesday, parents in a number of Rhineland-Palatinate cities in day care centers and in all-day care at schools have to expect warning strikes again. According to Verdi, up to 400 participants are expected in Ludwigshafen, and daycare centers in Mainz are also likely to be on strike. Many facilities remained closed throughout the day, it said.
The background to the strikes are unsuccessful negotiations with the Association of Municipal Employers’ Associations (VKA) in the municipal social and educational service. In the collective bargaining, the union calls for an improvement in working conditions, measures to counter the shortage of skilled workers and financial recognition of the work of employees in social and educational services. The nationwide wage negotiations are to be continued on May 16th and 17th in Potsdam.
