Warning from Intelligence Officials: Enemies’ View of Israel’s Internal Conflict

A day or two after the October 7 attack, Israeli decision-makers were scheduled to receive a sharp warning message from intelligence officers about “the enemies’ view of the country’s internal conflict.”

According to what Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported, intelligence officials were planning to send a letter to the government on October 8 or 9, warning it of “the way enemies view the internal conflict in Israel.”

She added: “At the beginning of last July, a long series of discussions took place in the Intelligence Division, and separately in the Shin Bet, about the impact of the political, social and economic situation in Israel on the outlook of its enemies.”

The officials unanimously agreed in their reports that “the deeper the political crisis in Israel, the greater the danger posed by one of the enemies, namely Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Jihad movement, the Assad regime, the Houthis in Yemen, and the militias in Iraq.”

“One of them might attack, and the others might join,” they said.

Yedioth Ahronoth explained: “In August and September, some heads of the security services began to feel that a terrible event awaited the State of Israel if the crisis did not pass.”

She pointed out that officials refuse “to conduct any investigation now, and prefer to do so after winning the ongoing battle” against Hamas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently been under intense pressure, whether from citizens or from the security and military services, in the wake of the attack launched by Hamas weeks ago.

An opinion poll conducted a few days ago showed that 80 percent of Israelis believe that Netanyahu should be held responsible for the attacks, which resulted in the deaths of more than 1,400 people and the holding of more than 200 hostages by Hamas.

According to a report by the British Sky News network, “Netanyahu no longer enjoys the support of many in the security establishment,” indicating that he knows that calls for his resignation will inevitably come.
