war – Warns Norwegians in Ukraine

Earlier on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that they were evacuating the staff at the embassy in Ukraine out of the country.

They were first brought to Lviv on the Polish border, then to Poland, before being transported to Norway.

Thursday night, the ministry comes with a warning to the Norwegians who are left in the country.

LUFAGREP: In a major airstrike with attack helicopters, Russia has taken control of Antonov Airport in Hostomel outside the capital Kyiv.

– The Norwegian embassy in Ukraine is now temporarily closed. Our envoy left Kyiv last night and traveled to Lviv in western Ukraine. They traveled further out of the country this afternoon. This will greatly limit our ability to help Norwegians in Ukraine, writes Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt in the press release.

– We are concerned about the situation for Norwegian citizens in Ukraine. They are now in an unpredictable and potentially dangerous situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted all Norwegian citizens who have registered, Huitfeldt writes.

The war has been going on all day long. So far, at least 57 Ukrainians have been killed and well over 100 injured. It is unclear how many Russians have died in today’s clashes.

– We now encourage all Norwegian citizens who are still in Ukraine to follow advice from local authorities, exercise extreme caution, make thorough safety assessments and seek security. We have recently sent several messages to those who have registered on reseregistrering.no or in the app Reiseklar, writes Huitfeldt.
