The battle for Donbass will indeed become decisive in war between Russia and Ukraine. Considering that the resources of the Russian Federation are already at the limit, the Kremlin can wage a high-intensity war for a few more weeks, no more. But this does not mean that the war will end soon.

This opinion was expressed by a military analyst, director of the Center for Army Studies, Conversion and Disarmament Valentin Badrak at site “Glavred”.

“There is one caveat. Putin is a supporter of symbolism, and therefore wants to save face in this lost war. To do this, he is preparing certain measures to demonstrate them to the world and his own society. After all, after the defeat in Ukraine, Putin’s position will be so shaken that it will be not even about removing him from power, but about physical liquidation,” the expert is sure.

According to him, Putin lost the war for Ukraine, and that is why he is subject to physical liquidation.

“The processes that he launched have become irreversible, and he himself poses a danger to the whole world because of his willingness to use nuclear weapons and resort to such atrocities that have already occurred in Ukraine. By May 9, the fate of the Putin regime will be finally decided,” he says. Badrak.

At the same time, because of this, a transition to another phase of the war may occur.

“For Ukraine, the most negative aspect here may lie in the fact that Putin will move on to “digging in” and holding the captured positions. Then Ukraine will need very powerful weapons in order to “pick out” the enemy. In the West, this is very well understood, and therefore now while Boris Johnson said during a visit to India that Ukrainian crews are being trained to use the new Stormer armored missile launchers, which use Starstreak missiles, which can shoot down enemy planes and helicopters. Starstreak is already used in Ukraine and destroyed a lot of Russian equipment,” the expert says.

He is confident that very powerful Western-made artillery will appear in Ukraine in the near future.

“All this will significantly expand the possibilities of unblocking Mariupol and knocking out Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine, that is, it will be possible to more actively go on a counteroffensive. Thus, subject to the appearance of new weapons, the prerequisites for a Ukrainian offensive appear and there are more and more reasons to believe that Ukraine will be able to win in battle for Donbass,” says Badrak.

However, according to him, the knocking out of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine depends on many aspects:

  • from the power of our strike during the battle for Donbass;
  • how high-quality and powerful Ukraine will be provided with “heavy” weapons, which will make it possible to hit the enemy at long distances and knock him out of Ukrainian territory;
  • to what extent the elite in Russia will be able to influence Putin and convince him to start negotiations and already during the negotiations to determine the further course of the war, or rather the conditions for the withdrawal of Russian troops.

Earlier, a former Soviet intelligence officer told about the mood in the Kremlin. He is convinced that the dictator’s current entourage will not risk overthrowing him.
