Few amateur soccer players in our country have the outstanding mark of having been regional champion and national monarch in various series several times, being the undisputed scorer in each of those championships won.

This is the case of Eugenio “Chure” Moreno from Granero, with a good formation of life values in the CD Sindicato de Graneros with coach Antonio Pereira (RIP), today he remembers with great affection his time in this club, as well as in CD Estrella being an adult.

At 42 years old, so far he has won the national champion’s cup five times, with Estrella de Graneros (2), Unión Compañía, IRFE de Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz national team, and; He also integrated O’Higgins squads in cadets, Rengo and Colchagua CD when the latter was active in the Third Division.

Eugenio today plays for CD Santa Amelia de Mostazal, but he hopes to soon return to his roots in Graneros, contributing his experience to the new talents of the commune and, why not, once being a coach for the Granerina team.

For Eugenio, amateur football has changed a lot. He says that “there is no longer any identity between the players and the clubs, since it has become very commercial and the clubs are looking for players in other cities and regions to reinforce themselves.”

Furthermore, they indicate that “despite the good work of clubs like Santa Ana, Sindicato that does not lose its training essence, San Ramón, Sol Naciente and San Juan, Graneros’ training football is in debt, a reality that is not far from what happens in the region and in the country”, an issue that for Eugenio “is partly due to the increase in technology.” Regarding adult competition, it is critical to point out that “poor organization, leaders, lack of vocation, the level of refereeing and the seriousness of the tournaments themselves are issues that affect the level and that I believe can be improve by training the different entities.”

Regarding the regional selection tournaments, the “Chure” is critical in highlighting that the level problems that the regional teams generally present, without the intention of detracting, is the tournament system in which it is the only one. region of the country in which the issue of key-by-key reinforcements was eliminated, opting for the reinforcement modality once one is a champion, which affects the formation of the teams that represent the region.

We asked him about the lack of consolidation of Young Soccer boys in professional soccer, which he pointed out is due to a lack of maturation. “Nowadays young people are focused on other things, they have many distractions, today they pay more attention to the haircut, the aesthetics, the selfies that affect me, the fact that they risk their careers by playing for little money in neighborhood clubs, hence the issue of discipline and perseverance is important.”

Eugenio remarks that “I would like it to be like in Argentina here, where the fans identify with the club from their region.”

In order to improve the level of amateur football, he says, “more amateur tournaments should be organized at the regional and school level, to re-enchant ourselves with this type of competition and thus be able to project the players from childhood.”

To the question: What do you need to do in football?, “Keno” is emphatic in pointing out his “desires to lead in my commune, first to start with the children and then to be able to reach a national team and transmit all my experience, to For this reason, serious work should be done, with good implementation, not going through the issue of money interests. For me, the important thing when directing is credibility because this makes the job easier”

Finally we asked him: What is your message for children who want to become professionals in soccer? “Discipline is important, not messing around, focusing on the objective. Nowadays there are more opportunities since in the region, for example, there are clubs such as Velasquez, Rengo, Santa Cruz and Rancagua Sur with Deportes Rancagua in the Third Division. “Not the best come to professional football, but rather those who focused well and had discipline.”
