WAITING ASSOCIATION. A women’s association in Manakara producing evoka rice “ALIZE”

The «MIANDRA Association”, which Women’s Association from Manakara, Fitovignany region, participates in the exhibition trade there FIER-MADA at the stadium of Makis Andohatapenaka Antananarivo, from August 2 to 6, 2023.

What distinguishes them, in this exhibition, is the introduction of the reformed rice product, the ewoka rice (” parboiled rice “) « ALIZE » according to the information provided by Mrs. Fenosoa Marie Florence, President of the “MIANDRA” Association.

The purpose of this organization is to reduce the amount of money that comes out of the consumption of rice. It contains various nutrients (such as vitamin B1, minerals), is stable in the stomach and can be consumed by those with diabetes. It can be stored longer than white rice as well.

METHODS OF RESEARCH BEFORE GIVING IT TO CUSTOMERS

When the rice comes from the rice field, there is already a special equipment to process it into improved rice. That is, it is his technical handling that makes him a varu evoka. Then it is dried in a steamer and dried, then pounded into white rice that can be eaten later.

All kinds of rice can be made with this ewoka rice, but we have specially chosen the mail rice. The wind blowing from the South-East in the Fitovignany Region gave it the name Hoa « ALIZE ».

During the fair FIER-MADA is already available at « sachets » one kilo and five kilos of this “ALIZE” rice. This new method has been in the works for a year. The organization produces half a ton per month but has a goal to increase it. The problem in Manakara is that crops are destroyed every time there is a typhoon.

This is exactly why the Association brought together the local women so that they don’t give up and try to find employment. The desire of this Women’s Association “MIANDRA” is to produce more of this rice and spread it throughout Madagascar. The State they hope to help so that there will be no more import of rice from abroad but to be independent. The evoka rice « ALIZEE » is one of the ways to boost the fight against malnutrition in Madagascar.
