The decision will be announced today
According to the spokesperson Saygı Öztürk, the decision on whether or not to transform the museum status of Hagia Sophia into a mosque is planned to be announced today at 16.30. The statement is expected to be made by the 10th Department Head of the Supreme Court, Yılmaz Akçil.
According to the information obtained, the decree of the Council of Ministers, signed by Ataturk dated 1934, which envisages Hagia Sophia to become a museum, was canceled.
Thus, the cancellation of decrees issued so far will be opened.
A part of Hagia Sophia has been open to worship since 1994, and 5 prayer times are read.
The mosque also has a permanent staff appointed by the mufti.
