Wage Increase and Employment Agreement Reached for Employees of Dutch Universities

More than 63,000 employees at the fourteen universities in our country will receive a wage increase of 9 percent. They can also count on a one-off payment ranging from 1,200 euros for the lowest scales to 800 euros for the highest.

The trade unions and the employers’ umbrella organization Universities of the Netherlands have concluded a new collective labor agreement. It has also been agreed that the percentage of academic staff with a temporary contract must be reduced from 15 percent to 13.5 percent within three years.

“It is a good thing that we reached this agreement before the summer. Many employees are eagerly awaiting a pay rise, especially those in the lower scales,” says CNV director Abhilash Sewgobind.

“With this agreement we can maintain the purchasing power for the employees. The agreements on temporary contracts are also very welcome. We have been able to take a big step towards employing more people on a permanent basis.”
