Wacom One: Wacom offers a cheap pen display for beginners

The Japanese manufacturer Wacom has its new pen display parallel to the CES 2020 in Las Vegas Wacom One presented. This is a compromise between the cheaper pen tablets of the Intuos series and the normally much more expensive graphics screens of the Cintiq series.

The One has also integrated a screen. It measures 13.3 inches and has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,090 pixels. Users draw, sketch and write on the tablet itself while looking at it. With the Intuos pen tablets, graphic artists look at the PC screen, while the hand with the stylus is positioned on the digitizer of the tablet – similar to a mouse on the mouse pad.

Like many Wacom products, the One should also be equipped with the well-known passive EMR digitizer technology. There is a coil in the stylus that is inductively charged by the tablet. A battery in the pen with its 4,096 pressure levels is therefore not necessary. In addition, Wacom tablets often turn out to be very precise. That should also be the case with the Wacom One. However, the relatively small screen could be too small for many professional graphic designers – especially because important programs such as Adobe Photoshop with their small menus do not scale well with them.

The Wacom One is connected to a USB-A port and HDMI of the host computer using a proprietary cable. This is different from the more expensive Cintiq Pro, which are equipped with USB Type-C ports. In addition, the screen with a specified NTSC color space coverage of 72 percent is rather unsuitable for professionals. Like the Cintiq Pro, the Wacom One can be set up with folding feet in a fixed inclined position, which however cannot be changed.

The tablet comes with a Wacom pen, three replacement leads, a power supply and the connection cable. The price for a product of the manufacturer is quite low and starts at 400 euros. Electronics market chains such as Saturn and various online retailers already offer the device.
