Wacha shines to give Boston 5th straight win

ANAHEIM — Michael Wacha threw three-hit ball in his first shutout in five years, and the Boston Red Sox beat the 12-record Angels 1-0 on Monday.

Christian Vazquez had an RBI single in the second inning in Boston’s sixth straight win.

The Angels matched their worst streak in a single season, which ended the 1988 schedule.

The loss went to Noah Syndergaard, who pitched six strong innings for the hosts.

Angels star Mike Trout singled in the first inning off Wacha (4-1) that snapped his career-long 26 scoreless at-bat drought. However, the Los Angeles offense failed to do much more in the first of seven games at home.

Wacha (4-1) walked one and struck out six. Syndergaard (4-4) gave up a career-high five hits in six innings, walking one and striking out three.

For the Red Sox, the Dominican Rafael Devers 4-1. Puerto Rican Christian Vázquez 4-1 with an RBI.

For the Angels, the Venezuelan Luis Rengifo 3-0.
