SPACE — On September 5, 1977, Voyager 1 began its epic journey through outer space. It launched on a glorious morning from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Voyager 1 was originally launched with a mission to explore outer planets. After flying past Jupiter and Saturn in 1979 and 1980, the spacecraft made a sharp turn and began its direct journey out of the solar system.

Voyager 1 became the first spacecraft to reach interstellar space in 2012, though scientists are still debating where exactly that cutoff lies.

The spacecraft’s next extraordinary journey will occur in about 40,000 years, when it will fly across another star system. Just you wait, just in case it finds intelligent life out there in the universe. If it does, it will carry a golden record with the sights, sounds and greetings of planet Earth. Source: Space.com
