Vote for the 430-Year-Old Country Elm in Bettange for the National Tree of the Year 2023

The country elm located opposite the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church, in Bettange, was planted in 1593 for the accession of a prince, during the reign of Henri IV (king of France). In May 1938, it already measured 6.10 m in circumference, 1.30 m from the ground and 7 m in height.

Outstanding Features

Today, this tree is a finalist in the national tree of the year competition. The Bettange elm is exceptional due to its morphology, its measurements and its canonical age of 430 years, as well as its resistance to graphiosis (a disease having decimated its fellows).

To support the selection of the elm in this competition, the “Hêtre Vit Vent” association is organizing activities around the trees on Saturday, December 10 from 1:30 p.m. at the Bettange village hall.

To win the prize for the most beautiful tree in France 2023, everyone can vote online before December 18.
