Rivals are beaten blue and yellow by the Swedes’ new cheap car.

Almost no matter how you choose to configure – that is, mix engine variant and equipment level – an EX30, it ends up being surprisingly affordable for a Volvo.
The least favorable price is probably the version that is visiting Oslo these days. It is the version with four-wheel drive, 428 horses, and top equipment with, among other things, a panoramic roof and 20 inch wheels.

During half a million
It has assumed a range of 460 km and an acceleration from 0-100 in 3.6 seconds. It is a tenth faster than the crudest version you can buy of the Tesla Model Y.
If you add towbars, winter wheels and metallic paint, you end up with just under half a million. A lot of money for a small car that may not have the space and comfort you expect for half a million. The latter remains to be seen until the upcoming test drives.

Crushing
But look again at the specifications. In other areas – equipment and power – it is overwhelmingly superior to most. If you lower the requirements for equipment a notch, you can easily deduct NOK 30,000.
But we move a little further down the price ladder to find the version that really shakes up the competition:

● Single Motor Extended Range with the equipment level called “Plus”.
This has rear-wheel drive, 272 horses, a range of 480 km and a trailer weight of 1,400 kilograms. If you add towbars, metallic paint and winter wheels, the total price will be around NOK 436,000.
This is a price with the potential to shake the market, although perhaps not to the same extent as Tesla’s price reduction in January this year.
