On June 6, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station at night. Ukrhydroenergo said that the station was not subject to restoration. The dam of the Kakhovka reservoir was destroyed, an uncontrolled flood occurred, thousands of houses were flooded.

An evacuation was announced in the Kherson region. In the occupied part of the region, which suffered more from the flood, it failed, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said.

On June 17, it became known that the Russian invaders did not let UN representatives into the flooded territories of the left bank of the Kherson region.

On the evening of June 20, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that as a result of the explosion by the invaders of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station on the right bank controlled by Ukraine, 21 people died, including five due to aimed shots by Russians. Another 28 were injured, of which 16 were liquidators of the consequences of the accident.

There is no exact data on the number of deaths in the occupied territories. The invaders themselves admitted the death of 46 people, according to media reports, the number of victims could be in the hundreds.
