Volkswagen Tiguan: Golf-like

Becoming one of the mainstays of the Volkswagen range, the Tiguan must always be up-to-date to sustain its success. So here he is, adopting Golf 8 gimmicks to suit his mid-career restyling. And since the Arteon has been around for a few days, it brings with it two radically different new engines.

The most glaring change of the new Tiguan is immediately noticed on the front side, where the lights are refined and tapered to extend slightly over the wings. A new design which obviously aims to bring it visually closer to the eighth generation of Golf, which is also true for the grille and the retouched shields. These new headlights also adopt (optional) IQ.Light technology, i.e. 24 matrix-managed diodes, which turn on and off individually automatically depending on the reality of traffic and the situation. The rear evolves less. However, the lights also adopt LED technology and a dynamic directional warning.

Additional assistance

On board, the update adds a new connected multimedia system, new skins, and a Harman-Kardon audio system of 480 Watts. We will also note with regret the replacement of the physical air conditioning controls by tactile controls, which are less easy to use while driving. But it is undoubtedly a question of adaptation and habit.

The range of driver assistance systems has also been expanded with the appearance of Travel Assist, automating highway driving up to 210 km / h. The predictive cruise control automatically adapts the speed to the layout of the road to pass a turn, a roundabout or an intersection in slow motion … sorry, safely.

Sport or ecology?

The range of engines is also updated. The diesels receive the double injection of AdBlue to reduce their particulate emissions (Twindosing). But above all, the range is enriched with a rechargeable hybrid engine of 245 horsepower. This allows you to travel up to 50 km (WLTP) in 100% electric E-Mode and up to 130 km / h. An engine that should quickly become essential given the current policy favorable to this kind of technology.

At the top of the range is an R version powered by a 2.0 TSI with 320 horsepower combined with the 7-speed DSG gearbox. As on the Arteon R, this is accompanied by a new electronic torque management system (Torque Vectoring) which significantly improves agility and efficiency in curves. On the driving side, no less than 7 settings are available: Comfort, Sport, Race, Individual, Offroad, Snow and Offroad Individual). Race mode can be activated at the press of a dedicated button.

Style wise, this R version is distinguished by a more muscular look, by 21-inch rims and by a chassis lowered by 10 millimeters. In addition, an exhaust developed by specialist Akrapovic will be offered.

The prices will be announced at the market later this year.
