The German automaker Volkswagen recently announced the cessation of activities in three of its Brazilian units, including its engine plant in São Carlos (SP).

According to the company, the shutdown will begin on June 21 and last ten days. The São Bernardo do Campo (SP) and São José dos Pinhais (PR) production areas will also be closed.

According to the manufacturer, the reason for the production stop is a lack of semiconductors, which “leads to many supply bottlenecks in many industries worldwide”.

“Since the beginning of the year, this has also led to supply problems in the automotive industry worldwide. The result is industry-wide adjustments in vehicle production, which also affect the brands of the Volkswagen Group, ”announced the company.

According to the company, the Brazilian operation is working with The Matrix and suppliers to “reduce the impact of shortages in semiconductors for production at its Brazil facilities.”

“However, the current scenario does not point the way to a final solution to normalize chip supply. On the contrary, there are serious risks that this situation will worsen in the coming weeks. ”

The company has not ruled out future disruptions if the global semiconductor supply scenario remains critical, “which has a direct impact on the company’s manufacturing activities in Brazil”.
