VodafoneZiggo warns customers to change Wi-Fi password on C7 Wi-Fi booster – Computer – News

VodafoneZiggo has called on many customers with a C7 access point to change their default settings such as the Wi-Fi password. The provider says there are no indications of abuse.

In mail, which many tweakers have now received, gives VodafoneZiggo tips to change the password. The provider also recommends changing the network name. There is nothing in the mail about the password of the router itself.

The provider says it has found ‘a weak point’ in the device. The company does not say what the vulnerability is. The leak was allegedly found by security experts. “There is no indication that the Wi-Fi Booster C7 or other equipment has actually been affected,” said a spokesperson. The e-mail was mainly sent as a precaution.

If an attacker exploits the leak and the default password for the Wi-Fi booster is still set, it would be possible to eavesdrop on information on the network. It is not known exactly how this works. VodafoneZiggo seems to have sent the message not only to users of the C7, but also to others. According to a spokesperson, this concerns ‘a large part’ of the customers. “We want to make sure that all customers who have the Wi-Fi Booster Ziggo C7 change their password as a precaution. Also the customers who have used the Wi-Fi Booster second-hand,” said the spokesperson.
