Vodafone extends free calls and SMS to and from Ukraine | Technician

Telecom provider Vodafone has extended the deal under which customers can call and send messages to and from Ukraine for free until March 31, 2023, the provider reports on its website. KPN and T-Mobile have not yet decided whether similar deals will be extended.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, KPN, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Hollandsnieuwe came up with special deals earlier this year. These were intended to enable Ukrainians in the Netherlands to maintain contact with people in their home country. Calls and SMS from a Dutch number in Ukraine were also made for free.

KPN customers can call and send free SMS to Ukrainian mobile numbers until 31 December 2022. KPN has already extended the scheme several times. “We will soon decide whether to extend it again,” a KPN spokesman told NU.nl. Hollandsnieuwe had previously announced that the scheme would run until at least 31 March 2023.

On T-Mobile, calls and texts to and from Ukraine were free earlier this year. From 1 October, calls and text messages from the Netherlands to Ukraine are subject to the lowest international rate of 23 cents per minute and 7 cents per text message. Calling and texting from Ukraine to the Netherlands is still free.

“T-Mobile will continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine and will respond appropriately,” a spokesperson for the provider said. “T-Mobile’s scheme still doesn’t have an end date.”
