The President of Russia Vladimir Putin commented on the breakthrough of fighters from the “Freedom for Russia” legions, the “Russian Volunteer Corps” (RDK) and the “Siberian Battalion” in the Belgorod and Kursk regions, reports RIA Novosti.
Vladimir Putin believes that their attack is an attempt to fail the elections and “get a trump card” for the exchange of territories in possible negotiations.
“The main goal of Ukraine, which regularly tries to attack Russian regions, is to try to prevent the normal conduct of the elections.”
“Nevertheless, the main goal, I have no doubt about it, is if not to prevent the presidential elections in Russia, then at least in some way to prevent the normal process of expressing the will of the citizens,” he noted.
“The explanation is very simple. All this is happening against the background of failures on the contact line, on the front line. They did not achieve any of the goals they set for themselves last year,” Putin believes.
Putin also claimed that there were foreign mercenaries among the volunteers. “Here, on the state border line, the enemy tried to attack primarily with sabotage groups, this is the latest report of the General Staff, about 300 people, including foreign mercenaries,” he said.
A day earlier, fighters from the Legions “Freedom for Russia”, “RDK” and “Siberian Battalion” announced that they had entered the border territory of Russia. The fighters of the volunteer units published an address and a video about the alleged presence of military personnel on the territory of the Russian Federation.
