VIVO Officially Presents V1, Homemade Image Processing Chip

TRIBUN-MEDAN.com – After being developed for approximately two years, the smartphone manufacturer Vivo has inaugurated the presence of its first image processing chip (ISP), named Vivo V1.

This custom imaging chip is designed to enhance the photography capabilities of Vivo phones.

Vivo’s executive VP and COO in China, Hu Baishan, said that the V1 will debut in the X70 line of phones that will launch in September 2021.

According to Baishan, the V1 will help improve the user experience by “optimizing smartphone application scenarios such as viewfinder display and video recording”. Kompas.com, Saturday (04/09/2021).

In a written statement received by Gizmochina, as compiled by KompasTekno, Vivo did not describe the capabilities or technical specifications of the V1.

However, the V1 is claimed to be Vivo’s new achievement in terms of R&D and chip design.

It was stated that 300 people from the Vivo research and development team designed the V1 for 24 months

The Vivo X70 smartphone line itself is predicted to consist of 3 models, namely the “regular” X70, X70 Pro, and X70 Pro Plus. The V1 chip is expected to only be embedded in the X70 Pro Plus, which is the top model.

Like the previous X60 line, the Vivo X70 lineup will reportedly focus on photo and video capabilities through collaboration with camera manufacturer Zeiss.

After starting with the ISP (V1), Baishan said that Vivo will continue development according to the four predetermined directions, namely “Design”, “Image”, “Performance”, and “System”.

Manufacturers from China have recently been more active in investing in innovation and reducing dependence on technology from the US, after the unfortunate fate of Huawei being blocked by the country.

Vivo is not the only vendor to develop its own chips. Oppo also does the same.

This manufacturer-made chip is expected to be announced along with the Find X4 line of phones early next year.
